About
The purpose of the National Security Agency (NSA) is to collect, collate, analyze, and disseminate foreign and domestic intelligence to
ensure the peace and stability of the Republic of Liberia. The powers of the NSA are enshrined in the 1974 Act establishing the NSA as
the premier intelligence organization in Liberia, furthered enhanced through the National Security and Intelligence Act of 2011 (NSIA
2011). The NSIA 2011 expanded the mandate beyond the 1974 Act to ensure the NSA access, analyze, and neutralize threats from
non-state actors and criminals, emanating from terrorism, organized crimes, drug and human trafficking to name few. The NSA has
resumed its pre-war responsibility of clearing of all intelligence emanating from state security institutions that are members of the
joint security under the Minister of Justice and the National Security Council under the direction of the President of Liberia
respectively.
