Mayor Koijee Appoints Citizen’s Engagement Board (CEB)

(Monrovia, Liberia): In consultation with the Monrovia City Council, the Mayor of Monrovia, Hon. Jefferson. T. Koijee, has appointed a Citizen’s Engagement Board (CEB) to work with the City Government of Monrovia in enhancing the Urban Renewal Initiatives.

During a press conference held at the Monrovia City Hall on Thursday, October 21, 2021, the Chief Administrator and Mayor of Monrovia, Hon. Jefferson. T. Koijee, made the appointment of patriotic Liberian citizens to steer the affairs of the Citizen’s Engagement Board (CEB).

The CEB is a volunteer group of eminent citizens committed to working with the City Government of Monrovia to commence the preparation of the City of Monrovia for the upcoming 2022 Bicentennial Commemoration and advise on the roadmap for the Urban Renewal Initiatives. Those appointed include:

Meanwhile, Mr. Franco B. Grimes, Jr., Chief of Staff in the Office of the Mayor will serve as Technical Secretary of the Citizen’s Engagement Board.

The Citizen’s Engagement Board’s (CEB) mandate will run from November 1, 2021 to January 7, 2022. The CEB will strictly function in its scope and mandate and report directly to the Mayor of Monrovia.

The CEB will function and operate for 10 weeks beginning November 1, 2021 to January 7, 2022, to carry out the given scopes and mandates in consultation and by approval of the Mayor. The scope and mandates of the Citizen’s Engagement Board include the following:

I. Provide guidance on sanitation plans and actions for the City of Monrovia;

II. Advise on cultural programs that promote the image of the City of Monrovia;

III. Develop ideas that will impact the general state of the environment and security in the City of Monrovia;

IV. Liaise with structures of the Monrovia City Corporation to engage communities and stakeholders for a clean city;

V. Provide ideas on seeking and attracting resources to carry out plans; and

VI. Invite citizen’s participation in activities that will impact the long term governance of the City of Monrovia.

The specific duties and responsibilities of the Citizen’s Engagement Board include the following:

I. Hold weekly meetings from the 1st week to the 10th week;

II. Review weekly workplan and submit to Mayor for approval;

III. Work with MCC departments and field supervisors for all field work;

IV. Attend all technical meetings;

V. Participate in city-wide forums for city development discussions; and

VI. Submit weekly reports to the Mayor on all activities

The City Chief Administrator has pledged the City Government of Monrovia's commitment to collect and dispose of solid waste from every street corner in and around Monrovia and maintain good sanitary conditions through a collective and participatory approach.

The Mayor welcomes the expertise of every prominent resident and assures that the City Government of Monrovia will work closely with good citizens and relevant stakeholders to ensure a clean, green and safe Monrovia.

With the help of all residents in the limits of Monrovia, the City Government of Monrovia looks forward to a full cooperation in order to achieve this significant goal for the sustainability of the orderliness of the nation’s capital.
